Long regarded as the premier address in Bucharest, this famous, historic hotel with 272 luxurious large rooms and suites in an ideal central location on Calea Victoriei.

Originally built in 1914, long associated with the highest standards of service, not to mention stories of intrigue and espionage during the Cold War years, the Athenee Palace was fully renovaed and restored to its former glory by Hilton in 1997. HOTEL CAPSA 5*

Another, famous historic hotel on Calea Victoriei is the Capsa which was established in 1852. The Capsa with its elegant hotel, cafe and famous confectioners was always the haunt of Bucharest high-society, and has numbered amongst its guests crown heads such as Emperor Franz Josef of Austria, Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany and the kings and queens of Romania. In 2003 it reopened, fully refurbished with 61 luxurious rooms and a wide range of facilities including the cafe, restaurant, conference room, souvenir shop, and sauna. Rooms are large studios or suites with ensuite bathrooms, TV, internet, air-conditioning and room service.

HOWARD JOHNSON GRAND PLAZA 5*

Award-winning quality hotel with excellent facilities located near Piata Romana. The Howard Johnson is best-known for its excellent facilities and contemporay design. The Grand Plaza, formerly the Dorobanti prior to a major 4 year renovation, is an 18 floor hotel with panormaic views of the entire city.

The hotel comrpise 285 deluxe rooms and apartments with en suite bathrooms, bathrobes, individual air conditioning, minibar, satellite and pay TV, safe deposit box, telepnone and high-speed internet access, and 24 hour room service. Other facilities include contemporary and Japanese restaurants, bars, laundry service, parking, an excellent fitness club and gym, and state of the art business and conference services.

HOTEL MARRIOTT GRAND 5*

Modern, deluxe hotel with outstanding facilities occupying part of the 'Palace of Parliament' complex to the west of the city centre. The Marriot Grand is the largest hotel in Bucharest, a virtual city in a city, with 402 deluxe rooms and suites, 6 gourmet restaurants and bars featuring innovative cuisine, convention centre, executive lounges, extensive sports facilities including an impressive pool, shopping area, casino and a 2000 sq.m. convention centre attached to the Palace of Parliament.

All guest rooms include ensuite bathrooms (most with separate bath and shower) , satellite TV, phone, high-speed internet connection, individual climate control and 24 hour climate control. Highly recommended for the business traveller or for conferences, though the leisure traveller may prefer a more traditional hotel rather than an international hotel which could be in any city in the world.

HOTEL INTERCONTINENTAL 5*
The tallest hotel with exceptional panoramic views, situated in the centre of Bucharest. This was where the western-press were besieged during the 1989 'Revolution' watching the events unfolding below them. Large, refurbished rooms with en suite bathrooms, cable TV, telephone, minibar and internet access. Excellent leisure and conference facilities including a swimming pool, restaurants, bars, laundry service, hairdresser, exchange desk and secure parking.

HOTEL CONTINENTAL 4*

Elegant, historic hotel with large, comfortable rooms located in a prime position on Calea Victoriei close to the Royal Palace. Excellent value for money. Rooms and suites with en suite bathrooms, cable TV, telephone and all the facilities of a modern international hotel. The Continental comprises uptodate conference facilties in addition to restauarants, bars, lounges, a beautiful ballroom / dining room, exchange desk and a travel desk.

HOTEL ARMONIA 4*

Recently opened modern, business hotel located on Calea Mosilor, east of Piata Universitate in the city centre. 33 ensuite rooms with air-conditioning, satellite TV, high-speed internet connection and minibar. Indoor and outdoor restaurants, bar, conference facilities, and parking. Exceptional value for money.

HOTEL OPERA 3*

Beautiful, recently refurbished Art Deco hotel between Cismigiu Gardens and Calea Victoriei. One of our firm favourites. 33 elegant, air-conditioned rooms and suites with en suite bathrooms, cable TV, telephone and minibar. Relaxing atmosphere including coffee bar, bar, intimate business lounge and a small summer terrace, room and laundry service, and parking. No restaurant but the traditional Vatra Restaurant is just a few doors away.

Note: The newly refurbished VENEZIA HOTEL belongs to the same hotel group and will become available later in 2006

HOTEL CENTRAL 3*

Standard, 3 star hotel on Bulevard Regina Elisabeta, close to Cismigiu Gardens and Calea Victoriei. Large rooms with en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, minibars, cable TV and contemporary decor. Other facilities include a restaurant, bar and parking.

HOTEL REMBRANDT 3*

A very nice, newly opened small hotel (15 rooms) in a renovated 1925 town house located in the historic Lipscani district of the city centre. Rembrandt offers elegant, comfortable rooms ranging from spacious business class to smaller tourist class rooms. All of them comprise ensuite bathrooms, cable TV with CD and DVD player (hotel has a DVD/CD library), free high-speed internet access, remote controlled air-conditioning. minibar, telephone and 24 hour room service. The Rembrandt has a very pleasant relaxed atmosphere and also oncludes comfortable bar and bistro (the Klein Bar) whih serves food and drinks throughout the day.

HOTEL CAPITOL 3*
Straightforward, good value, 3 star hotel in an impressive neo-classical building on Calea Victoriei. Nice dining rooms but bedrooms rather dark and gloomy in our opinion.

HOTEL BATISTEI 2*
Pleasant, former party hotel in surprisingly quiet location close to the National Theatre and Piata Universitate. Good restaurant. Air-conditioned rooms, and certainly better than several 3-star hotels in the city.

HANUL LUI MANUC 2*

Exceptional value and genuine atmosphere. One of Bucharest's most beautiful, historic buildings situated in the Lipscani District of the city centre. Hanul lui Manuc (Manuc's Inn) is an old coaching inn with a central arcaded courtyard surrounding by elegantly carved balconies. Rooms are basic but clean with en suite bathrooms and satellite TV. Service in the very touristy courtyard restaurant is dreadful, but there are so many decent traditional restaurants in the surrounding historic centre of Bucharest (Hanul Hangitei, Casa cu Bere etc) that this doesn't matter. This is a tourist attraction in its own right with a wine cellar and restaurants. Please note that despite the hefty walls of this old building there is no air-comditioning so rooms may feel warm in July or August.

CASA PHOENIX, Snagov

An attractive private pension with gardens leading down to the lake at Snagov. 5 double rooms, some with en suite bathrooms. Meals can be provided on request. Landing stage stage beside the lake. Boats to Snagov Monastery on the island can be arranged.
