Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the guesthouse

We welcome you at the airport on arrival. Transfer to Zarnesti (2900 feet) by minibus (8+1) or car.
We recommend not staying up too late, as next morning we have an early start.

Day 2: Wildlife observations

We leave at 4.30 am by car to Sinca area to observe wildlife. Together with the game warden, who has 14 years of experience in this field, we will walk slowly in the area looking for bears (sometimes even in winter, when the bears would normally hibernate), red deer, roe deer, foxes, wild cats, owls, buzzards, woodpeckers etc. The early departure is to enable us to track the nocturnal animals before they go to sleep, which in mid-summer is around 9.30 am. Chances of seeing animals: 70-90%.
We walk back to the car and stop for a picnic in this magnificent valley.

Optional no extra cost: In the afternoon we offer a guided visit to a shepherd camp in the Sinca area and a walk in this beautiful forest. The guide will explain about the co-existence with large carnivores and traditional flock protection techniques. We will taste locally produced cheese with onions, as well as polenta and plum brandy. Well have dinner back at the guesthouse.
Again well have an early start the next morning!

Day 3: Wildlife observations

Wildlife observations: similar to day 2.
Optional no extra cost: We drive from Zarnesti to Bran village, where we visit the historic Bran Castle - in some respects the archetypal Transylvanian fortress. The guide will explain also about the differences in the development of two valleys very close as location, but very different from the economic point of view. Strong emphasis on the history of the area, especially how local life was shaped by the attacks of the Tartars and Turks starting in the 1300s. From Bran we drive to Brasov, where we visit the 770 year old town. In the evening we have some free time for shopping and exploring the pedestrian part of Brasov. Well have dinner back at the guesthouse.
Dont forget to not stay up too late, as next morning we have an early start, too.

Day 4: Wildlife observations

Wildlife observations: similar to day 2.
Optional no extra cost: In the afternoon we take a gentle walk in a lovely meadow leading up to a shrine in a cave not far from Zarnesti. The guide will trace the origin of this shrine back to the 1300s and also explain the agricultural traditions and the impact of technological progress on the local life.
Difficulty: Easy/Medium.
Instead of the normal three-course dinner, we will have a barbeque around a campfire.

Day 5: Transfer to the airport and departure
