An excellent alternative to the larger city centre hotels is this quality, private hotel located in the leafy suburbs close to the edge of the Dumbrava Forest (20 minutes walk from the city centre).
The hotel was recently renovated though service could be better. However, the location is one of the best in the town, and the rooms are comfortable.
Continental Hotels have taken over the historic Bulevard Hotel at the edge of the central pedestrian zone and have upgraded it to a smart heritage hotel. 135 rooms and 7 apartments. Good facilities including a business zone with offices, bank, shops, cafe-bar, restaurant serving regional cuisine, spa and gym, sauna, massage, solarium and an attractive indoor garden. Excellent location.
The 138 room Ramada will open in May 2007. This is a modern hotel with excellent facilities situated in the centre of New Sibiu. Buffet Breakfast. Air-conditioning throughout.
Large hotel in the Sub Arini Park part of the city. Good value if driving. Good facilities. Opened 2006.

A delightful, historic hotel rather reminiscent of an old German Gasthof with a bar and restaurant providing traditional and international cuisine downstairs, and a separate wine cellar. The building, which is 400 years old, has been carefully refurbished to preserve its architecture and character. It also comprises an inner courtyard shaded by a nut tree, ideal for relaxation. All of the 17 guest rooms and 5 spacious suites are different, mainly large and spacious, and uniquely with genuine antique furniture. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, cable TV amd telephone. The hotel is conveniently situated in the heart of the romantic citadel, on the edge of the main square. Since opening in 2003 the Casa Wagner has proved extremely popular with our clients due to its traditional atmosphere, quality service and hospitality, and has established itself as one of our favourite hotels in the region.

Sighisoara
The largest of the historic, citadel hotels, the Sighisoara stands between the old square and the covered stairway leading up to the church on the hill.
The most recently opened 'citadel' hotel is the charming Casa Epoca which is located in the ramnling Strada Tamplarilor close to the Shoemakers Tower. It is located in beautifully restored 'Gothic' style house constructed during the 15th century. Casa Epoca offers 10 cosy double rooms and a suite, all with en suite bathrooms, cable TV, telephone, and minibar. There is an intimate restaurant, bar and a terrace in the central courtyard. Other facilities include laundry services, secure parking and travel services.
Small, private hotel with different themed 'historic' rooms such as the 'Mediaeval Room', 'Old Room', and 'Green Room'. Access to the rooms is from outside. Small bar in cellar but no restaurant or other facilities. Located in the citadel. Poor value compared to other citadel hotels.
The spa resort Hotel Expro is situated in the small and pretty saxon village of Bazna (Baassen) situated ina valley between Medias and the main Tarnave Valley wine-growing region at Cetatea de Balta. Bazna, like many of the villages in this region, is dominated by its impressive fortress church. Thermal gases and iodine salts were discovered in the 18th century and following the realisation of the benefits of both the water and climate a spa was established in Bazna in 1843.
Hotel Expro comprises 28 comfortable rooms and suites with en suite bathrooms, cable TV, telephone and minibar. The main attractions are its central location (easy reach of the saxon villages, wine-growing region, Sighisoara, Targu Mures and Sibiu) and its health and sports facilities. The spa offers treatments with iodine salt water and mud, especially for rheumatism, in addition to natural therapies such as aromatherapy. There are also indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi, sauna, massage, a sports ground, tennis courts and a well-equiped gym. The restaurant offers a wide range of cuisine and there are two bars, one of them beside the pool. Other benefits include laundry service, parking, internet access and full conference and business facilities.

This 6 storey hotel offers comfortable accommodation in 168 rooms, all of them with balcony, bath or shower, satellite TV, minibar and telephone. Non smoking and rooms for the disabled are available. Of special significance is the modern health spa offering relaxation and healing treatments. Other facilities include a restaurant, cocktail bar, buffet, summer terrace, indoor salt water pool, steam bath, sauna, solarium and beauty salon. The hotel stands 150 m from the Bear Lake which has a very high salt content and warm, sun-heated water.
Located in a quiet valley beside the road from Rasinari to the small resort of Paltinis in the Cindrel mountains. This comfortable "Austrian-style" pension boasts an excellent restaurant, a good selection of Romanian wines and its own trout pool. 3 double rooms and one apartment for 4 people - all are reasonably large, tastefully decorated and all of them with a private bathroom, comprising shower and wc, TV and central heating. Some of them have balconies. There is ample parking and an outdoor pool and terrace.
UPDATE 2007: This is another property which has recently raised prices to an extent that we feel it now represents poor value - prices quoted are now on a level equivalent to the Austrian Tyrol without the refinement to justify them!
A nice private pension, located on the back road from Cisnadie to Sadu, with magnificent views over flower-filled meadows and woods to the rugged Fagaras mountains - especially suitable for families. A useful alternative if you are driving and would prefer to visit Sibiu from the countryside rather han stay in town. Very hospitable proprietor - German also spoken.
2 apartments upstairs for families - each with a large double room with smaller, adjoining twin room; wooden with shuttered windows and balconies. Shared facilities: good bathroom on ground floor, extra WC upstairs. Large dining/ living room, breakfast room and kitchen including fridge. Other facilities include outdoor covered terrace, BBQ, garden and orchard, own small wine cellar and laundry room. Extra cabin outside for summer use only with 2 double beds. Full board available but menu is basic. Good value
