DAY 1 - Monday Flight: Tarom RO392 - London Heathrow 12:30; Bucharest Otopeni 17:45 Flight: Tarom RO709 - Bucharest Otopeni 20:55; Iasi 22:00 Meet and Greet service, transfer into the city of Iasi. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Astoria 3* (the renovated wing of the former Hotel Traian - designed by Eiffel) DAY 2 - Tuesday Morning sightseeing tour of Iasi, the cultural centre of Moldavia, including the famous Trei Iehari church and the extravagant Palace of Culture. Continue to the beautiful monasteries of Neamt, Agapia and Varatec. Continue to the village of Voronet in the Bucovina region where we check into the lovely Hotel Casa Elena 4*, surrounded by flower gardens, meadows and mountains. Dinner and overnight. |

DAY 3 - Wednesday Today we make a circuit of some of the Painted Monasteries - Moldovita and Sucevita set amidst the beautiful mountains and woods of the northern part of Bucovina, and Arbore, the smallest of the churches with external frescoes. We also visit Marginea, renowned for its very distinctive smoked black pottery, and the impressive monastery of Stephen the Great at Putna, close to the border with Ukraine. Lunch will be a picnic at Sucevita. Dinner and overnight at Casa Elena. DAY 4 - Thursday Today we take a leisurely trip into the dramatic eastern Carpathians and enjoy a picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight at Casa Elena. DAY 5 - Friday We visit the last of the Painted Monasteries this morning - Voronet and Humor. Continue eastwards to the vineyards of Cotnari, once the provider of fine wines to the Moldavian court, for lunch and wine-tasting. Return to Voronet via the dramatic ruined fortress of Neamt. Dinner and overnight at Casa Elena. DAY 6 - Saturday Full day scenic tour following the pretty Bistrita Aurie valley via the village of Ciocanesti and its colourful folk-architecture up to the Prislop Pass in the impressive Rodnei Mountains. Picnic lunch. We descend into the Maramures for a brief tour into the Iza Valley, famous for its wooden architecture, in particular carved gateways and wooden churches. Return to Voronet for dinner and overnight at Casa Elena. DAY 7 - Sunday Morning at leisure. Depart for Iasi after lunch and check on to the Astoria Hotel for overnight. Special farewell dinner at either the Bolta Rece or Trei Sarmale restaurant, both well known for exceptional Romanian cuisine. DAY 8 - Monday Morning transfer to the airport for your flight home.
