SOFIA

Sofia is rather a surprising city with its constant mountain backdrop. It possesses little of any genuine antiquity apart from a few Byzantine ruins despite having been settled for some 300 years. Most of its architecture is relatively modern though there are plenty of stuccoed turn of the century buildings, some fine churches including the Sveti Sofia church which dates back to Roman times, and a handful of historic mosques. Nevertheless it is an appealing city withy broad, often tree-lined, Boulevards and an easy going atmosphere revolving round the bars, cafes and restaurants. The main attractions lie in the area of Sveta Nedelya Square, eastwards along the Largo, dominated by the Stalinist pile of the former Communist Party headquarters, and then following a route matked for 1km by yellow painted cobbles through Alexander Batenberg Square and along Boulevard Tsar Osvoboditel and including the Alexsander Nevski Square. These include Sofia's oldest church, the St. George Rotunda dating 4th Century

We can offer a wide range of Sofia city breaks for the business or leisure traveller. There are up to 2 daily direct flights from Gatwick with Bulgaria Air, a direct service with British Airways from Heathrow and a wide selection of connection flights.

Sample short break package prices are as follows. All are based on two people sharing a twin room for 2 nights on a bed and breakfast basis, with Air Bulgaria return flights. All subject to availability.
