Breakfast. A full day will be spent in the historic, and scenic, region of Veliko Turnovo. Tour of the romantic, ancient town of Veliko Turnovo including the vast fortified citadelof Tsarevets, perched high above theYantra, and the recently opened '40 Martyrs church (13th Century). Lunch (included). We will also explore Arbanassi and visit the fascinating Petropavlovski Monastery, Wine-tasting at the Liaskovets winery. Evening free and own arrangements for dinner. Overnight: Arbanassi.

DAY THREE: 2 JUNE 2007
Breakfast. Visit Dryanovo Monastery and the museum town of Tryavna, a famous woodcarving and icon painting village. After lunch (included) we climb through the Balkans via the dramatic Shipka Pass, scene of the resitance of the Bulgarians and Russians against a much larger Turkish Army. Descend into the "Valley of the Roses" and visit the spectacular Shipka Memorial church, with its vibrant colours and golden onion-domes. Orthodox music concert. Continue to and visit the Goliama Kosmatka Thracian Tomb (UNESCO heritage site) and one of the recently discovered Thracian Tombs. Check into a 3-star hotel near Kazanluk. Dinner with folklore performance.
DAY FOUR: 3 JUNE 2007
THE FESTIVAL OF ROSES
Early breakfast to enable you to witness rose picking in the fields (roses must be harvested before the heat of the sun evaporates the precious oils). Visit to the 1st cosmetics facory for rose water and rose oil and see the production process (small gift for all visitors). We can also sample rose jam, Banitsa (typical Bulgarian pastry), Rosaliika liqueur during our stay. Join the carnival procession on the main square in Kazanluk. Lunch (included). Continue up the Valley of Roses into the Sredna Gora Mountains to reach the beautifully preserved museum village of Koprivshtitsa. This is real highlight of any tour with its half-timbered National Revival style architecture and pastoral setting amidst wooded hills. Overnight in a 3-star hotel. Own arrangents for dinner.
DAY FIVE: 4 JUNE 2007
Breakfast. Continue to Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second city, an attractive place steeped in history. Tour of old Plovdiv with its steep cobbled streets and characteristic National Revival architecture, in particular dozens of colourful mansions with timber-framed oriels enabling them to expand outwards with each storey. Visit the Hindlian Mansion, the Roman amphitheatre and the St. Helena and Constantine Church. Lunch at the 5-star Puldin restaurant in Old Plovdiv, built on old Roman fortifications and used as a dervish centre in the period of the Ottoman Empire. Late afternoon departure to the spa town of Velingrad in the Western Rhodope Mountains. Own arrangents for dinner.

Breakfast. Travel via the museum town of Bansko, which lies at the foot of Mt.Vihren, the highest peak of the Pirin mountains (2914m). Tour of Bansko including the Trinitry church. Lunch in town, probably at a traditional Mehana (food in Bulgaria is delicious, reshly prepared and normally organically produced; don't miss out on the salads). Cross the Predela Pass to descend into the Struma valley which separates the Pirin and Rila Mountains, to arrive at Rila Monastery. This is Bulgaria's most visited tourist attraction, famed for both its architectural beauty and its mountain setting. Rila Monastery with brightly frescoed church and fortified walls is recognized by UNESCO as an important part of the World's Cultural Heritage. Tour of the monastery, lunch, then an afternoon drive to the capital, Sofia. Overnight at a comfortable hotel. Own arrangents for dinner.

City tour of Sofia in the morning including the Alexander Nevsky cathedral, St.Sofia Church, Parliament Square, National Theatre and St. George Rotunda. Lunch included. Overnight at a comfortable 4-star hotel. Own arrangents for dinner.

US$ 45 million. 3000-6000 kg of blossom
are required to make just one litre
or the precious attar.
