Flight prices vary subject to availability and demand. Scheduled flight prices are lower to destinations such as Bucharest which have a high volume of traffc than smaller airports such as Sibiu where most of the traffic is for business. They are also generally lower if travelling midweek. Early booking is strongly recommended for busy periods including Easter, Christmas and weekends during the summer holidays. No frills airlines now serve many Eastern and Central European destinations. For example there are excellent direct services with WIZZ from Luton to Timisoara, Targu Mures and Cluj, Blue Air and Easyjet to Bucharest or by Jet2 to Budapest. However, it should not be assumed that you will always secure lower prices by booking on the internet. Wizz fares are much the same as those for scheduled airlines during periods of high demand, especially when you take into account booking fees, baggage fees and credit card charges. However, they offer a great advantage of direct services into the heart of Transylvania, avoiding the long transfrers and congestion of Bucharest. It is always wise to check with a reputabe travel agent as they will have ascess to fares for all airlines travelling to a particular destination at their fingertips. If you are booking your holiday through a reputable, licensed travel agent, all of your travel arrangements will be financially protected under their ATOL or travel trust schemes. In addition they will be abe to assist if there are problems with connections leading to missed flights, accommodation or tours. However, if connecting flights are booked separately directly with airlines you will not be covered in the case of a missed connection, forcing you to pay again for the next available flight.Fares booked in conjunction with accommodation or a holiday are also sometimes less expensive.
British Airways and Tarom both operate direct, daily return services between London Heathrow and Bucharest Henri Coanda (still generally referred to as Otopeni) airports. British Airways have also added a third service from Heathrow while WIZZ have direct services from Luton to Bucharest , Timisoara, Targu Mures, Craiova and Cluj. There is also a direct service with Blue Air from Luton to Bucharest and to Bacau which is a useful gateway for the Painted Monasteries of Bucovina. H There are numerous excellent connections with scheduled airlines via Europe offering some excellent value, especially where you can travel from an alternative airport. For example KLM usually have three daily connections to Bucharest from most UK regional airports. Lufthansa fly from Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow in addition to London, and also connect to Timisoara and Sibiu. Tarom also offer good value connections to Timisoara, Cluj, Iasi, Sibiu, Târgu Mures and Bacau via Bucharest Otopeni, whilst Austrian Airlines connect via Vienna to Baia Mare, Iasi, Cluj, Sibiu and Timisoara. All schedules subject to change by airlines. Scheduled prices to Romania (Bucharest) normally start at around £ 190.00 inclusive of taxes. Current Lowest Scheduled Fare to Bucharest: Swiss via Zurich from approx. £ 175.00. Wizz sometimes have fares to Timsioara and Cluj, from as low as £ 65.00-£75.00 return, but may levy additional booking, baggage and credit card fees. Average high season prices can easily be £ 250.00 - 300.00 per person unless flights are booked early. These simply reflect flight availability. Tarom offer through connections to several Romanian cities at the same rate as their Bucharest flights offering particularly good value, though connections can be lengthy. Indirect flight prices are often lower but the difference is usually counterbalanced by the additional airport taxes levied by the intermediate airport. British Airways fly daily direct to Sofia while Air Bulgaria fly daily from Gatwick to Sofia, and during the summer also to Varna. Wizz also serve the Black Sea from Luton. There are also charter and low cost flights to Sofia and Black Sea (Bourgas & Varna) Scheduled prices to Bulgaria start at around £ 150.00 inclusive of taxes British Airways and Austrian Airlines operate several daily flights to Vienna, whilst there are several budget routes including those of Ryanair from Stansted to Graz, Klagenfurt, Linz and Salzburg |

Times are subject to change. British Airways flight schedules from Heathrow maximise your time in Romania. The Tarom schedule is based on a morning return flight from Bucharest and may be less convenient for those wishing to travel onwards into Transylvania since the outward arrival misses the night sleeper train connections, and the return flight leaves early so a night in Bucharest might be required. However, Tarom offer excellent international connections to and from Timisoara, Cluj and Iasi, and less frequently toBacau, Suceava, Târgu Mures and Sibiu. Other European airlines also provide daily connections to Bucharest, and Timisoara, from the United Kingdom but require a brief change of planes in Europe. Some, such as KLM and Czech Airlines offer excellent connections from many UK regional airports. Carpatair fly between Timisoara and several cities in Germany and Italy, and between Cluj and Budapest

TIME DIFFERENCE Direct flights to Bucharest and Sofia take approximately 3 hours 15 minutes. Please note two hours time difference between London and these two cities. IMPORTANT NOTE BUCHAREST TRANSFERS Please note, that due to severe traffic congestion in and around Bucharest, transfers from the Otopeni airport to the city centre or Nord railway station often take 90 minutes. You should always allow a minimum of 3 hours between your arrival time and train departure times. It is possible to take a transfer to Ploiesti to catch trains heading north from Bucharest. This takes abou 60 minutes. If you are travelling to Sinaia or Brasov it is worth considering a direct transfer from the airport, rather than travelling into Bucharest. Transfers from Baneasa into Bucharest are much shorter due to the closer proximity of the airport to the city centre. GO GREEN Consider taking the Train The current surge in air travel is one of the biggest causes of climate change contributingup to 15% of greenhouse gases each year. Greenhouse gas emissions caused by UK air travel have doubled in the past 13 years from 20.1m tonnes in 1990 to 39.5m tons in 2004. In addition aircraft emissions which go directly into the stratosphere have 2.7 times the environmental impact of those on the ground. Air travel produces 19 times the greenhouse gas emissions of trains, in other words a trip to Vienna, Prague, Budapest or Bucharest by train would emit 95% less carbon dioxide than the equivalent flight. Train travel is no solution for a short trip to eastern Europe but it is certainly worth considering for a longer holiday where stopovers and spectacular scenery can be incorporated into the overall experience. There are a wide range of rail tickets from the UK via Paris and Brussels to Austria, Hungary and Romania in addition to Eurodomino and Balkan Rail Passes for unlimited rail travel. ![]() Treeflights.com do one thing ~ they plant trees for people who fly. When we take a flight we burn up hundreds of litres of fuel, a non-renewable resource that took millions of years to make, and we produce a lot of CO2, the main culprit for global warming. Theres no way of avoiding it, flying is inherently environmentally destructive and we shouldnt do any more of it than we have to. Planting a tree is an ecologically constructive thing to do. Trees use the suns energy to absorb CO2, taking it out of the atmosphere and turning it into the renewable material that we call wood. Trees also encourage biodiversity and are fantastic air purifiers. However, they take ages to grow. When you order a Treeflight that this is not a quick-fix and your flight will not suddenly become carbon neutral. But the tree planted for you will make a significant, positive difference, over time, to our atmosphere. For further information, or to order a Treeflight please visit: Treeflights.com |
