Brief Encounter!
These flexible tours enable you to discover either the remote mountains of northern Transylvania - home of
Bram Stoker's 'Count Dracula' combined with the mediaeval heartland of Transylvania, or the domains of the
real-life Vlad Dracula - Wallachia and the Burzenalnd around Brasov.
These tours can be organised and adapted for groups or individuals alike
and are becoming popular with 'Hen' or 'Stag' Groups.

DAY 1
Mediaeval Transylvania
Arrival in Cluj or (more convenent) Târgu Mures
Transfer to the romantic town of Sighisoara (Schässburg), birthplace of
Vlad the Impaler (Dracula) and one of the best preserved
walled mediaeval towns in Europe.
Meal and overnight in the historic Hotel Casa Wagner
DAY 2
On the Trail of Jonathan Harker
Everybody is familiar with opening sequences of many Dracula
movies - Stoker's character 'Jonathan Harker' being warned
against venturing up the 'Borgo' Pass while staying at the
'Golden Krone' in Bistritz (modern-day Bistrita) - we lunch
in the same place before venturing up the pass ourselves
where we stay at the conveniently located Hotel Castle Dracula
Evening meal and Bonfire ... perhaps you will hear the howling
of the wolves which still infest these remote forests?
DAY 3
Vampires Ball
Provided we survive the night we will continue to the old
city of Târgu Mures where we will either dine well or
Optional: a spectacular Vampire's Ball can be arranged for
your group in the old fortified citadel of the town.
This 5 hour extravaganza features shows, dancing, folklore,
music, feasting and ... an appearance by the Count!

DAY 1
Little to Fear"
Why? Because you arrive in southern Romania, in the province of Wallachia,
ruled between 1456 - 1462 by Prince Vlad the Impaler-Dracula.
He may have had a nasty reputation (Impaler) but no vampire inclinations!
It is tomorrow that you shall cross the mountains into Transylvania.
Arrival at Bucharest Otopeni airport; direct transfer to the Royal resort of
Sinaia by car, minibus or coach (depending on your group size).
Briefing, evening meal and overnight in 2-4* Hotel.
Optional: disco or nightclub.
Bran Castle
DAY 2
"Transylvania"
First, visit the most beautiful royal palace in Romania - Peles (this extravagant royal summer palace is reminiscent of those of King Ludwig in Bavaria).
We then cross the Carpathians into Transylvania where our first call
will be the famous Castle Bran (1377) - often touted as "Castle Dracula"
although any connections are tenuous to say the least!
You may also visit the folklore market below the castle. After lunch
(own arrangements) we drive to mediaeval Brasov (30 km),
the second city of Transylvania. Vlad was here too; the Tampa Hill was the site of one of his most infamous raids where victims were impaled.
Sightseeing tour of the mediaeval city centre of Brasov.
Overnight Brasov or Poiana Brasov - wide variety of accommodation available.
DAY 3
"Forbidden Realms"
This is a day of deep initiations, the kind known only to the Transylvanian Society of Dracula. If your journey is between June and the first snows of the autumn (late September or October), we will cross the spectacular Transfagarasan highway into Wallachia, ascending past the deep lake, high above Hermannstadt (Sibiu), said to be the cauldron from which thunder is brewed. Here the Solomonari (students of Alchemy) were said to have learnt the secrets of "Scholomance", the power to control the forces of nature, from the Devil. Only ten students were admitted at a time and one of them was detained by the Devil as payment. Stoker refers to Count Dracula having been a student here. At other times of the year we will take the scenic Bran-Rucar pass. Set amidst spectacular mountain scenery we find the ruins of the historic fortress Dracula, Poienari, and learn its dramatic legends.
Overnight in either the village of Arefu, in private homes (bathroom, telephone, TV) - if group does not exceed 10 persons; or at Hotel Posada further down the valley in at Curtea de Arges - a former capital of Wallachia. Farewell dinner.
DAY 4 "Nobody can enter Transylvania and leave unchanged!"
Early departure for the airport, calling at Targoviste, Vlad's original capital with ruins of his princely court. Afternoon flight home.
