Beyond the Forest was originally conceived as a specialist travel service toTransylvania in 1999. However, we have recently upgraded the website to provide independent information to assist anybody wishing to visit Romania, wheher for leisure purposes, or for business. We can count on almost 25 years of personal travel experience in Romania, plus a fabulous network of friends and colleagues who are passionate about this fascinating region, or are specialists in particular fields such as nature, heritage or the arts. The website has designed to provide the best of Romania at your fingertips with sections about different regions, attractions, getting there and getting about, where to stay, special interests and useful links to a host of other useful websites. All recommendations are based on personal experience so feedback is always much appreciated to ensure information is always uptodate. All recommended services such as accommodation are reviewed regularly. New hotels may be added while others may be removed if they fail to continue to meet the standards that are expected by the discerning traveller.
We feel it is very important to be open and honest when it comes to describing services to you what you might experience from visiting the country. For example, we will never guarantee that you will see wolves or bears (though we will suggest everything to maximise your chances), nor will we tell you that Bran Castle is "Dracula's Castle" - it is certainly the archetypal Transylvanian fortress but any connection is tentative to say the least!
Beyond the Forest is devoted to offering you a taste of the 'real' Romania on a personal level. The website caters for many interests and most holiday ideas that we recommend support sustainable tourism, and encourage conservation of the environment, and the preservation of Romania's unique rural and cultural heritage. Our sections on Austria, Bulgaria and Cumbria follow a similar format. WithAustria we have focussed on some of the beautiful regions that are often overlooked, especially by UK travellers. For example the beautiful Danube valley with its wine, haute cuisine, culture and legends, which are rarely experienced any closer than from a passing cruise ship. Or the wilderness of the Steiermark, the so-called 'Green Heart of Austria'. This is a country we have been exploring on a personal level for over thirty years. You will not find the Black Sea resorts or Golden Sands or Sunny Beach in our Bulgaria section. Rather we show you the other side of this beautiful country - the cultural centres, the history and the wilderness of the Rhodope and Rila Mountains. As for the Lake District - home, sweet home. We might even let you in on a few secrets here too ... for example where to avoid the crowds on a Bank Holiday weekend ... much easier than you might expect!

Beyond the Summit is a specialist travel service concentrating on central and Eastern Austria.
