Eden Valley and the Lake District Fells from Hartsop
The Eastern Fells are where Cumbria meets the Pennines. Centred round the market town of Penrith, this region embraces the familiar tramping ground of the high mountains around Ullswater, Martindale and Haweswater, and the remote, less visited region east of the M6 Motorway including the beautiful Eden Valley and part of the Pennines. In addition to the mountains there are attractive towns, historic towns including Alston, Appleby, Kirkby Stephen and Sedbergh, and a string of castles, reminders of border raids and uprisings: Penrith, Appleby, Brougham, Brough, Pendragon to name just a few.
